At KL Industri, we continue to develop our certified test laboratory as an important part of our long-term commitment to quality and reliability. Recently, new heat testing equipment from EDT was installed, enabling us to carry out tests on transformers up to 3,200 kVA – or dual 1,600 kVA units – something that was not previously possible.
Improved measurement and control
The new equipment allows precise digital monitoring of current and temperature. Twelve temperature sensors continuously measure the difference between the outdoor temperature and the transformer oil, while current and temperature data are recorded every thirty minutes. This makes it possible to verify that current levels remain stable across all three phases and comply with applicable standards.
“It gives us a much clearer picture of how the station performs under load and makes the tests both safer and more reliable. The equipment also allows us to optimize the stations to maintain a higher safety class, which is an important focus area for us,” says Håkan Bäckmark, Test Lab Manager at KL Industri.
Customer benefits and development potential
For our customers, the upgrade provides a clear advantage. The increased capacity makes it possible to test station types with higher-power transformers – something that has become increasingly in demand on the market.
“We can see that customers appreciate when we take steps forward in our development and involve them actively in the process,” says Håkan. “It creates transparency and strengthens trust in both us and our products.”
Part of a broader development effort
The new equipment also supports our sustainability goals, where reduced energy losses from transformer heat generation is one of several important areas for developing the energy-efficient and sustainable solutions of the future.
“Every improvement we make in our testing helps us build stations of even higher quality with lower energy losses,” says Håkan. “In the end, that’s a win for both our customers and the environment.”
With this latest upgrade, KL Industri continues to strengthen its position as a leading player in the development and testing of network stations – with a clear focus on reliability, quality, and energy for the future.
